About The Visual Image with Mary Blue
Art is universal and brings us together. Artist Mary Blue and filmmaker Mario Olmedo from Live Image Productions have teamed up with The Bank Arts Centre to produce a series of 10 art experience videos designed to help you ignite your creativity. Beginning on the 4th of December 2020 and available to purchase and download through June 2021 these videos are intended to be participatory and help inspire you through the next few months; no matter where you are in the world.
These video art workshops available for purchase from The Bank http://www.thebankeye.org form the basis of an art experience and are made up of a series of 10 episodes that are cumulative to help you develop your expressiveness over time. Episodes are roughly 40 minutes of participatory creativity and costs just £8 or all 10 episodes for £70. They are intended to help you explore visual expression with just a pinch of art history and a little something to expand your artistic practice. They are a way to help you access your creativity, out of the blue.
Artist Mary Blue said: “There are reasons we make art, a desire for beauty, as a way to capture a likeness, or describe a place. It’s a way to communicate or express an idea. It’s all about identifying possibilities and imagining something new, building on the past, or making something your own. These videos share ways to create, explore artist materials, highlight artists and jumpstart your practice. The focus is on the journey. I often work with students who tell me that they can’t believe how much time it takes to bring their ideas from their mind’s eye into reality. So I try to demystify the process and to inspire people to pick up a paintbrush and have fun. Often when people observe me painting, they say things like ‘I’ve always wanted to learn to draw or paint, can you teach me? Or, I haven’t picked up a paint brush since I was 14 years old.’ So I designed these episodes to help you ignite your own creativity.”
Filmed in the historic town of Eye, in Suffolk, The Bank Investing in Discovery is a ‘not-for-profit’ community hub providing opportunities for Learning & Skills Development, Employment & Occupation, Addressing Loneliness & Rural Isolation and supporting the Visitor Economy in East Anglia, although the videos are filmed locally they have a world wide appeal.
This course will be available to anyone interested in “learning to see” from the practicing artist, the economist wanting stress relief, a GCSE art student needing hands on learning or to a grandmother just wanting to something to do with her grandchildren on a Saturday morning.
This first series will focus on still life and figurative painting. The reach is international and intended to help people create in the comfort and safety of their own home as a way to connect virtually with each other during a time of solitude. We encourage everyone to post their creations online at #art_ignited so we all can view an online gallery of work created from around the world.
