Mini solo exhibition from Hannah Andrews-Miller, exploring identity, connection and place.
“I wanted to depict the mundane parts of life through my work. All of the pieces I produced for this exhibition has been work from projects I've completed in college. It all began when I picked the theme 'private' as a title for my A Level art exam. I've always had a fascination for human nature and identity, especially as I work primarily with portraiture. I wanted to shed light on intimate moments, playing around with nudity, colour and composition. I didn't want to focus on diaries or secrets, I wanted to explore private spaces- the bedroom and in turn how that represents someone as a person. I've worked with self-identity as well as the identity of my friends and peers. It was important for me to be honest in my work and whilst that put me in a vulnerable space depicting myself half naked lying in my bed, it serves justice to the message I wanted to get across and it was even more vital to the authenticity to how we as people behave in our safe spaces. At the end of the day I wanted to conceive this idea of relatability in my work. I wanted the audience to look at it and feel seen." Hannah is the recipient The Bank’s Young Artist Award 2023.
