HELP US RESTORE THE BANK'S CHIMNEY
Since 2012, The Bank has become a vital creative and social hub for our small market town, providing inclusive access to arts, culture, and digital opportunities for the local community. Our centre hosts a growing programme of exhibitions, workshops, live performances, and social events – supporting personal growth, skills development, and community connection. Our historic Grade-II listed building, a former Midlands Bank, urgently needs repairs to its chimney. Following detailed inspections in early 2024, structural damage was discovered, including gaps in the mortar joints of the crown stones and sandstone blocks, as well as a cracked block – all caused by decades of weather exposure. Without repair, the chimney is at risk of further damage or collapse, threatening the safety of the building and its continued use. The repair works will involve removing, repairing, and resetting the damaged crown stones and sandstone blocks, reinforcing the inner brick lining, and securing the structure with stainless steel ties. Due to the building’s listed status, we’ve consulted with the Mid Suffolk Heritage Officer, who has approved the repairs without needing further permissions. For these repairs, we have been quoted £9,184.80. The Bank Arts Centre (Eyes Open CIC) are a small volunteer-led not-for-profit CIC and rely on grant funding and income generated through our café and events to cover day to day core costs. Without external support, we are unable to afford these essential repairs. We have had difficulty finding eligible grant funds due to our listed building status, location and CIC status. However we have a pending grant application with the Alfred Williams Charitable Trust for £5,000. Therefore, we are working to raise the remaining £4,184.80 through donations and fundraising events. We need your help to raise the funds necessary to complete these repairs and protect The Bank for future generations. The Bank plays a crucial role in our community - welcoming over 8,000 visitors a year and offering a safe space for arts and culture, social interaction and creative expression. Your support will ensure we can continue to provide a vibrant and accessible cultural space for Eye and the surrounding areas. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. Help us keep The Bank open and thriving – donate today and be part of securing the future of our community hub. |
