CALL TO ARTISTS - OPEN CALL EXHIBTION
LIGHT & FLUX
Exploring Nature, Energy & Transformation
Light shapes the natural world—it reveals, energizes, and transforms. It marks the passing of time, the changing of seasons, and the subtle shifts within landscapes. In nature, nothing is static. Growth and adaptation occur in response to environmental forces, from the steady rise of the sun to the unpredictable rhythm of the tides.
This year, The Bank Arts Centre is celebrating a bright future with the installation of new LED lighting, marking a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. To honour this transition, we invite artists to reflect on the relationship between light, energy, and the environment in Suffolk.
This exhibition invites artists to explore the dynamic relationship between light and flux—the tension between stability and change, illumination and shadow, growth and uncertainty. Artists may consider the interplay between light and shadow, presence and absence, seen and unseen. How does light bring new perspectives to the way we engage with our surroundings? What role does presence—human or natural—play in shaping the future of our landscapes? How does natural light influence the land and the ecosystems that depend on it? How do plants, animals, and landscapes adapt to shifting patterns of light and energy? What stories emerge in the glow of sunrise or the deepening of dusk?
We seek diverse artistic responses that reflect on the cycles of change within the environment. From the regenerative power of sunlight on new growth to the vulnerability of habitats facing environmental instability. This open call serves as a creative platform to raise awareness about energy conservation, environmental stewardship, and the small actions that lead to meaningful change - reminding us of our shared responsibility in preserving Suffolk’s natural heritage.
Artwork submissions for this exhibition are open to all artists & creatives based in or around East Anglia.
Artists can submit up to 3 artworks for consideration.
We encourage submissions from students, young artists and professionals alike. We will consider submissions of all media, this may include, but is not limited to - painting, drawing, print, sculpture, installations, digital media, photography and textile.
