Creative Writing Workshops: An Introductory Course

Want to explore writing as a creative art? Join us for this new series of workshops exploring an exciting variety of genres and skills.
Designed to introduce beginners, and those more experienced in other forms, to the world of writing, these sessions will provide a good grounding to anyone wanting to have a go at writing. We have 8 sessions available - Each can be standalone if you'd like to explore one aspect, or attend all as a full course!
19th February - THE WRITER'S TOOLKIT
So you want to be a writer, either for pleasure or perhaps more. What do you need? Where do you start? How do you plan a novel? A work of non-fiction? How to research? Services for authors?
19th March - WRITING OUT OF CHARACTER
Finding your 'voice' in the written word OR how to write characters other than yourself!
23rd April - THE PLOT THICKENS
The knotty issues of plotting, narration, storylines AND what it really means to 'Show, Don't Tell!'
14th May - THE ART OF THE SHORT STORY
How long is short? What is defined as a 'story?' (including suggestions for how to get your short story published).
18th June - MEMOIR - IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!
Getting your own story out there. How to write what you know from inside out.
16th July - FEATURE WRITING
How to start to make a living from the written word. Writing for magazines and pedioricals, both printed and online.
13th August - THE EDITING PROCESS
What does editing actually involve? How important is it? As a writer - do you need it? Where do you get it? Can you do it yourself?
10th September - WRITING OUT LOUD
An introduction to writing for performance, whether plays for theatre, radio, performance poetry, or anything that turns the words into sound and action.
