THE PROJECT
In January 2024, we began supporting Eastern Angles audio storytelling project to document and share the personal histories of our town and it's residents. We hosted an open call for poems and short stories that present personal histories and perspectives of our town. We received many submissions from both residents and students from Hartismere School. Poems and stories were selected to be recorded by voice actors, that were curated into a “sound collage” - an immersive soundscape that narrates a scenic trail through the town. Words from the community, about the home they know and love.
Inspired by the Suffolk town of Eye, this community 'sound collage' has been created using words contributed by the local people who know and love this place. Pop on your headphones, press play, and discover the stories of Eye in this free audio trail 🎧 Listen below!
On 27th April, we welcomed the Eastern Angles Team and contributors to the project to Eye for the launch event. Starting at The Bank, we embarked on a group walk along the trail all listening to the sound collage through wireless headphones. Returning to The Bank for a welcome and thank you message from Eastern Angles Artistic Director, Jake Smith, and to see a display of poems written by Year 7 & 8 Students from Hartismere School, and pop up exhibition of artworks inspired by local scenes.
